Where to buy in London and the UK

UK retailers who are exceptionally good for Italian wine include

John Armit in London - sells by the case (of six bottles), good coverage of higher quality wines from northern Italy;
Lea & Sandeman - see their London Fine Wine website, again good coverage of the north, plus some selctions from Puglia and Sicily;
Ballantynes of Cowbridge - online;
Raeburn Fine Wines in London, and
Valvona & Crolla of Edinburgh - good coverage, north and south.

Our other recommendations are predictable and a bit dull I'm afraid, but for unusual and special bottles we recommend the following

Selfridges (good selection of Italian and French wines)
Fortnum and Mason (some good value own label wines from France)
Waitrose (probably the best supermarket buyers, with a small but well chosen selection of interesting Italian wines, among others)
Oddbins (the outstanding high street retailer).

Where to buy in Napoli

Enoteca Belledonne, vico Belledonne a Chiaia, 18, Napoli tel (081) 40.31.62. In Chiaia, an excellent enoteca in the little backstreets, decorated in comfortable modern style, with an excellent selecttion of wines from Campania and elsewhere in Italy

Enoteca Dante, Piazza Dante, 18, Napoli tel (081) 549 9689. On the corner of the Piazza furthestfrom Intramoenia, and close to the Metro. Specialists in regional wines, with a good selection from elsewhere - even, my goodness, from outside Italy.

www.everywine.co.uk Authoritative site with a huge range.

Jancis Robinson suggests that some of the keenest prices for top-quality Italian wine are to be had in Italy itself where some merchants will ship wines internationally. Germany, Switzerland and the US also have some exceptional specialists in fine Italian wine. She recommends WineSearcher for international price comparisons.
